# The stock report

A stock's page opens on a report in eleven numbered sections, each a one-sentence answer with a way into the tab that holds the detail.

| At a glance | |
|---|---|
| Address | /stocks/<ticker>, e.g. /stocks/aapl |
| Sections | Summary, Valuation, Quant, Growth, Financials, Profitability, Peers, Ownership, Wall Street, News, About |
| Rebuilt | Every night after the US close |

## The header

Every page of a stock carries the same header: the company's name and ticker, its [Valuation grade](https://sweetvaluelab.com/manual/valuation-grade), its [Quant grade](https://sweetvaluelab.com/manual/quant-grade) and the last close with the day's change. Under it are the tabs — Overview, Valuation, Quant, Financials, Ownership and News, plus Business metrics for the few companies that report operating figures the site tracks.

## The eleven sections

The overview reads top to bottom like a research report. Each section opens with one sentence that answers its question, and ends with a link to the tab that holds the detail.

| | Section | What it answers |
|---|---|---|
| 00 | Summary | Three short paragraphs written from the page's own figures, beside the price chart, then ten key statistics and the price's change over 1 month to 2 years |
| 01 | Valuation | The Valuation grade, the price against the headline model, and every model, multiple and the cost of capital under it |
| 02 | Quant | The Quant grade with its recent sessions, the sector's spread and the comparable companies' grades |
| 03 | Growth and forecasts | The analysts' revenue and earnings consensus for three years, beside the last five years' growth |
| 04 | Financials | The last eight quarters against the same quarter a year earlier, the trailing twelve months, and eight years of the main lines |
| 05 | Profitability and health | Five years of margins, return on equity, leverage, interest cover, liquidity and the share count |
| 06 | Peers | The comparable companies side by side, each with its price against its own model |
| 07 | Ownership | The quarter's 13F holders, the superinvestors' moves, insiders and the largest holders |
| 08 | Wall Street | The analysts' price targets, grades and recent actions — theirs, quoted |
| 09 | News and filings | The latest company news and filings, each linked to its source |
| 10 | About | What the company does |

## How the summary is written

The summary is a template filled in from the figures on the page, not a language model. It cannot state a number the page does not show, it uses the same words for price against model as everywhere else, and it changes with each night's rebuild.

## Banks and other financials

A bank, an insurer or another financial company is read on net income, equity, book value and dividends per share, net margin, return on equity and on assets, and equity to assets. Operating income, free cash flow and net debt mean little on a balance sheet made of loans, so they are left out for these companies.

A growth rate between a negative and a positive figure is shown as "n/m": a loss turning into a profit has no meaningful percentage.

## What the report is not

The report puts each figure beside the company's peers or its own history. It never scores a stock beyond the two named grades, and it is not advice.
