# Reading the two grades together

The Valuation grade looks at price against value; the Quant grade comes from a different model. Where they agree and where they differ are both worth reading.

## Two models, two questions

Every stock page carries two letters at the top, the [Valuation grade](https://sweetvaluelab.com/manual/valuation-grade) and the [Quant grade](https://sweetvaluelab.com/manual/quant-grade). They use the same scale, S the best to D the worst, but they come from different models and look at different things.

| | Valuation grade | Quant grade |
|---|---|---|
| Looks at | The price against what the site's valuation models put the company at | What a separate quantitative model sees; its inputs are not published |
| Compared across | Every stock the site covers | Every stock on the model's list |
| Set | After each close | Before each open |
| Explained on | A stock's Valuation tab, model by model | A stock's Quant tab, day by day |

## When they agree, and when they differ

Two models that look at a stock in different ways will often disagree, and the disagreement is information, not an error. A stock can grade S on valuation and C on the quant model, or the other way round, on the same day.

Neither grade overrides the other, and the site does not combine them into one letter. Read each beside its own page: the Valuation tab shows which models the price is set against and what each assumed; the Quant tab shows how the letter has moved and how the stock's sector and comparable companies are graded.

## What neither of them claims

Both grades are statements about models on a given day. Neither is advice, a price target or a forecast, and neither tells you what to do with a stock. The site publishes the letters, the model behind each and its date — never the rank, score or cut-offs behind them.
